Prof. Dr. Michelle Becka, University Professor (pay grade W 2), Institute of Practical Theology, has been appointed University Professor (pay grade W 3) of Christian Social Ethics at the University of Würzburg with effect from 1 September 2025.

Dr. Feriel Bouhafa, Junior Professor, Faculty of Human Sciences, will be reappointed Junior Professor of Islamic and Arabic Studies at the University of Würzburg with effect from 22 October 2025.

Prof. Dr. Natanael de Carvalho Costa, Theoretical Physics of Condensed Matter, Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, will join Prof. Dr. Fakher Assaad at the JMU Chair of Theoretical Physics I on a CAPES research fellowship for experienced researchers from the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation.

Norbert Dassing, Regierungsamtsrat, Central Administration Unit 2.3 (Examination Office) retired at the end of August 2025.

Dr. Diego D'Angelo, Akademischer Oberrat with fixed-term appointment into civil service, Chair of Theoretical Philosophy, has been granted the venia legendi for philosophy with effect from 29 July 2025.

Dr. Timo Deutschbein, Privatdozent for internal medicine, Medical Director, Medicover Oldenburg MVZ, has been appointed außerplanmäßiger Professor with effect from 23 July 2025.

Dr. Katherina Hemmen, member of the academic staff, technology platform at the Bio-Imaging Centre, has been appointed Akademische Rätin with probationary appointment into civil service with effect from 15 July 2025.

Dr. Àlex Díaz Jiménez has received a two-year research fellowship from the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation. He will conduct research in Prof. Dr. Joanna Wencel-Delord's research group at the Institute of Organic Chemistry from 1 September 2025.

Dr. Carola Koch, Akademische Rätin with fixed-term appointment into civil service, Chair of Egyptology, has been granted the venia legendi for Egyptology with effect from 13 August 2025.

Prof. Dr. Markus Lau, Theological University of Chur, Switzerland, has been appointed University Professor of New Testament at the University of Würzburg with effect from 1 September 2025 with lifetime appointment into civil service.

Anton Lauer, Central Administration Unit 4.5 (Human Resource Management), has been appointed Head of this Unit with effect from 1 August 2025.

Karin Neeser, Bibliotheksamtfrau, University Library, will retire at the end of 14 October 2025.

Brigitte Seitz, Bibliotheksamtsrätin, University Library, will retire at the end of September 2025.

Dr. Mario Vallon, member of the academic staff, Professorship of Anatomy and Cell Biology at the Institute of Anatomy and Cell Biology, has been granted the venia legendi for anatomy and cell biology with effect from 13 August 2025.

Thorsten Voll, Central Administration, Department 4: Service Centre Human Resources, was appointed acting head of the department with effect from 1 September 2025.

Dr. Julia Wallstabe, Akademische Rätin, Institute of Hygiene and Microbiology, has progressed to lifetime appointment into civil service with effect from 1 August 2025.

Lucas Walz, Regierungsoberinspektor, Central Administration Unit 3.1 (Funding), has taken up a position at the City of Würzburg with effect from 1 August 2025.

Dr. Jenny Wegert, Akademische Rätin, Theodor Boveri Institute of Bioscience, has been appointed Akademische Oberrätin with effect from 1 August 2025.

Dr. Laura Zapfe, Lehrkraft für besondere Aufgaben (specialised instructor), Institute of Political Science and Sociology, has been appointed Akademische Rätin with probationary appointment into civil service with effect from 1 August 2025.

From the Central Administration

With effect from 19 August 2025, responsibility for degree-seeking foreign nationals not holding a German higher education entrance qualification, including matters relating to uni-assist, for the International Tutoring Programme and for the enrolment procedure for international doctoral researchers has been transferred from Unit 1.3 (International Office Incoming) to Unit 2.2 (Student Affairs). Vanessa Heid and Gabriele Sibinger (formerly Unit 1.3) have been assigned to this Unit.
