Open day at the geriatric day clinic
04/28/2026The Centre for Geriatric Medicine at the University Hospital of Würzburg is inviting all interested parties to an open day at its geriatric day clinic on Tuesday, 5 May 2026.
The Centre for Geriatric Medicine (ZAM) at the University Hospital of Würzburg (UKW) at Kantstraße 45 comprises an inpatient area as well as a day clinic. Its structure, aims and services will be presented at an open day on Tuesday, 5 May 2026.
"There are many senior citizens who would benefit from structured therapy without needing full inpatient admission. Our day clinic closes precisely this gap in care," explains Dr. Kathrin Tatschner, Head of ZAM at the Kantstraße site. According to her, the facility enables intensive, holistic treatment by doctors, therapists and nursing staff, while patients can remain in their own home environment.
Restoring independence and quality of life
"The main aim of the geriatric day clinic is to maintain or restore the independence and quality of life of older people," explains Tatschner. In addition, hospitalisation should be avoided or shortened. Patients who are not yet fully rehabilitated after an acute illness can continue to be treated in the day clinic without the need for inpatient care.
Lectures and guided tours
At the open day, experts will be giving talks between 9.00 and 10.00 a.m. to explain the requirements for treatment and what everyday therapy looks like. Afterwards, visitors will have the opportunity to get to know the rooms of the day clinic on guided tours until 11.00 am.
To take part, it is important to register by calling 0931/201-75010 or sending an e-mail to Combee_E@ukw.de.
The free event is part of the Senior Citizens' Weeks organised by the municipal company of the district of Würzburg in cooperation with the District Office, the Association of Independent Welfare Services and the senior citizens' facilities in the district of Würzburg.
