New charity crime novel supports the planned care home for relatives
09/15/2026Alexander Meining’s new charity crime novel was published a few days ago. The doctor, who works at Würzburg University Hospital, is donating his royalties to the charity ‘Hilfe im Kampf gegen Krebs’ (Help in the Fight against Cancer) for a specific project.
Professor Alexander Meining, a part-time author and Deputy Director of Medical Clinic II at Würzburg University Hospital (UKW), is continuing his series of charity novels: the volume "Narzissen am Gelgenberg" (Narcissi on the Galgenberg) was published by Gmeiner Verlag on 9 September.
This time, Meining is donating the author’s royalty, which is based on sales, to “Hilfe im Kampf gegen Krebs e.V.” to support the centre for patient and family support at the Rotkreuzhof planned by the Würzburg-based association. The project aims to combine temporary accommodation with counselling, psychosocial support and social interaction at the historic estate in Würzburg-Oberdürrbach.
“Contact and proximity to relatives provide patients with support precisely when it is most urgently needed. Accommodation for relatives thus makes an important contribution to holistic care and a good recovery,” says the professor of gastroenterology, explaining his commitment. About the content of the new publication
‘Narcissus on the Galgenberg’ follows on from the book ‘The Old Man from the Main’. In 1946, Würzburg lies in ruins and the population is starving. When a young woman is found with her throat slit in the American barracks on Galgenberg, unrest threatens to break out.
The situation escalates when another body turns up – that of the first victim’s girlfriend. Both women had been adorned with daffodils. Inspector Gerhard Mehling investigates alongside Colonel John Schmidt, the head of the US Military Police, amongst former Nazis, lonely US soldiers and deluded nurses.
The 224-page book costs 14 euros.
