Climbing a tower, making music and bringing joy to the people on the ground: This special type of concert has been around since the Middle Ages. Back then, it was mainly trumpeters, horn players and trombonists who scaled the lofty heights. At first, they blew hour signals. Then more and more chorales or specially composed tower music were added.

The tower of Würzburg's Neubaukirche has been a place of music for 20 years now: a carillon, the university's carillon installed in 2005, is regularly played there. And since 2021, there has been a tower carillon every Advent - initiated by musicologist Professor Ulrich Konrad.

Best Acoustics on Franziskanerplatz

Once again, there will be Würzburg tower music on the third Saturday in Advent, 13 December, from 4:30 pm: the brass quintet of the Würzburg Philharmonic Orchestra will alternate with university carillonneur Jürgen Buchner to play Advent and Christmas compositions.

The concert lasts about 30 minutes. If you want to hear it, you should go to Franziskanerplatz: It has the best acoustics.
