Media: Research at the University of Würzburg in the press
01/13/2026Whether on television, radio, online or in print - researchers at the University of Würzburg are always well represented in the media. Here are some recent examples.
Pension commission: The future of pension insurance is an open book. The question of how to proceed is heating up in society. Since January 2026, a new "Pension Commission" has been supporting the Federal Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs in finding a solution. Peter Bofinger, JMU senior professor of economics, money and international economic relations, is a member of the 13-member commission. Both regional and national media picked up on the topic, including the Main-Post, Tagesspiegel, Frankfurter Rundschau and ZDFheute.
China studies: Are Chinese politicians trying to silence academic critics from Europe? This question was addressed by Björn Alpermann, Professor at the JMU Chair of Contemporary Chinese Studies, Vanessa Frangville, Professor at the Free University of Brussels, and Rune Steenberg, University of Olomouc. The researchers report from their own experience: they describe how one of their projects attracted the attention of Chinese authorities and how science must protect itself. The opinion article appeared in the print edition of the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung on 17 December 2025.
