"Mass at half past five" to be held at Himmelspforten Monastery in future
08/04/2026The Diocese of Würzburg has appointed Professor Martin Stuflesser to provide pastoral care for evening services on Sundays and public holidays at St Kilian’s Chapel in the Kloster Himmelspforten conference and retreat centre.
From Sunday, 20 September 2026, the ‘Mass at half past five’ will take place on Sundays and public holidays at 5.30 pm in St Kilian’s Church at the Kloster Himmelspforten conference and retreat centre, Mainaustraße 42, Würzburg.
The liturgical format of the ‘Mass at half past five’ has been in existence for seven years. It is characterised by a distinctive liturgical structure, in which the central signs and symbols are celebrated in a meaningful way. In keeping with the spirit of the Second Vatican Council, the focus is on the active participation of all those taking part in the service.
The ‘Half-past-five Mass’ is organised by the Chair of Liturgy at the Faculty of Catholic Theology, University of Würzburg. The services are led by the Chair’s holder, Professor Martin Stuflesser. “I would like to thank the Diocese of Würzburg for the trust they have placed in us,” said Stuflesser. “I am delighted that there is a future for the ‘Half-past-five Mass’, which is so popular with many people, and that we will be celebrating Mass together at this wonderful venue in future.”
