Life Sciences: PhD Students Organise Symposium

09/23/2025

A wide range of research work from the life sciences will be presented at the EUREKA! symposium at JMU on 8 and 9 October. The conference is open to all interested parties.

The "EUREKA!" symposium is a conference organised by doctoral students from the Graduate School of Life Sciences at the University of Würzburg, now in its 20th year. It will take place on Wednesday and Thursday, 8 and 9 October 2025, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the lecture hall of the Rudolf Virchow Centre at Josef-Schneider-Straße 2.

The conference offers Würzburg students and doctoral candidates in particular a platform where they can present their research work and network with leading scientists.

The conference language is English. The symposium is open to all interested parties; the organising team expects around 200 participants.

Planning and Developing an Academic Career

"With the conference, we want to support the next generation of researchers in their careers," says doctoral student Lina Günter. She is one of the three chairs of the organising committee, which consists of eight people.

Because the symposium is also about career development, the programme includes more than just lectures. There will also be competitions for scientific writing and poster presentations; the best participants will be honoured at the end.

A panel discussion will focus on possible career paths after the doctorate. It will take place on 9 October at 10:30 am. The organising committee has invited guests from academia and industry:

  • Dr Thomas Ziegenhals, Senior Director, in vitro Transcription Development, BioNTech SE
  • Dr Jan Freudenthal, Managing Consultant at adesso SE
  • Prof Dr Eva Klopocki, Institute of Human Genetics, University of Würzburg
  • Prof Dr Katrin Heinze, Chair of Molecular Microscopy, University of Würzburg
