EEG at JMU: Focus on knowledge transfer and global networking
08/04/2026The CuttingGardens conference brings together researchers from various disciplines who work with EEG data. The deadline for registration is 31 August 2026.
Electroencephalography (EEG) is a non-invasive imaging technique used in neuroscience to record the brain’s spontaneous electrical activity over a specific period of time. By placing several electrodes on the scalp, the EEG measures voltage fluctuations caused by neuronal ionic currents in the brain.
In academic and clinical research, the EEG is particularly valued for its excellent temporal resolution, which enables the detection of neural processes on the order of milliseconds. It serves as a fundamental tool in cognitive neuroscience, neurology and biopsychology for investigating mental states, cognitive functions and sleep patterns, as well as for analysing neurological changes.
What is CuttingGardens?
CuttingGardens is a globally decentralised conference organised by the CuttingEEG community, focusing on methods for M/EEG data analysis. Following its great success in 2023, the conference returns this year for its second edition. It takes place simultaneously at several locations (known as ‘Gardens’) around the world and offers:
- Global afternoons: A shared international programme broadcast to all venues.
- Local Mornings: Independent sessions held around the globe.
This year, JMU Würzburg will host its first ‘Garden’, with a local programme focusing on EEG pre-processing.
The Würzburg CuttingGarden provides a space for open dialogue. Here, EEG researchers can learn from each other’s workflows by exploring the ‘how and why’ behind various approaches – from clinical settings to research laboratories.
Date and venue
The conference will take place at the Institute of Psychology I, Marcusstraße 9–11. It begins on Monday 21 September 2026 and ends on Friday 25 September 2026.
Local programme and registration
Full details of the timetable, topics, sessions and the registration process can be found on the Würzburg CuttingGarden 2026 website.
Registrations are now open and will close at 23:59 CEST on 31 August 2026.
