Communicate the results of the dissertation clearly
12/16/2025"What did you actually do in your doctoral thesis?" The KlarText competition for science communication is all about the answer to this question. The closing date for applications is 28 February.
The Klaus Tschira Foundation's KlarText Prize is all about explaining your own research in a way that is understandable to laypeople. The award is presented every year and recognises outstanding science communication.
The principle: scientists who have completed a doctoral thesis in 2024 or 2025 with a very good rating present their research in an easy-to-understand article or a clear infographic. They then compete for the most exciting story in various categories, depending on their specialism.
Which subject areas can take part
The dissertations must come from the fields of biology, chemistry, computer science, geosciences, mathematics, neurosciences, physics or related subjects. Texts and graphics can be submitted until 28 February 2026.
It's worth taking part: the best articles and the best infographic will each be honoured with 7,500 euros and published in the knowledge magazine "KlarText". The winners will also be included in the Klaus Tschira Foundation's alumni network.

Interview with award winner from Würzburg
Christof Weiß, Professor of Computational Humanities at JMU since 2022, won the KlarText Prize in 2018. He works on algorithms for analysing music recordings in order to make audio data usable for musicology.
An interview with him can be read on the foundation's website .
