JMU is continuing to develop its support structures: since April 2026, the Contact and Information Centre for Students with Disabilities and Chronic Illnesses (KIS) has been organisationally linked to the Coordinating Office for Diversity.

In its day-to-day work, the KIS remains the first point of contact for students with disabilities or chronic illnesses at its usual location in the building next to the canteen. In addition to the KIS, the Helpdesk Anti-Discrimination is already based within the Coordinating Office for Diversity.

Closer networking, greater visibility

The aim of this integration is to link counselling and support services even more closely and to raise the profile of these services. At the same time, the new structure enables more intensive exchange, faster coordination and additional synergies – for example, in raising awareness, quality development and crisis support.

In future, counselling cases can be handled even more effectively through close collaboration, drawing on diverse perspectives – for instance, where disability, social circumstances and potential experiences of discrimination intersect. Those seeking advice will thus benefit from even more closely coordinated counselling and a more centralised focus on the issues of accessibility, anti-discrimination and equal opportunities.

Through this structural consolidation, the University of Würzburg is strengthening its diversity strategy and sending a clear signal in favour of an inclusive university culture that actively promotes diversity and improves participation for all.
