Children’s University: The music of the world

10/06/2026

Music can be found all over the world, but it doesn’t sound the same everywhere: A journey of discovery with the Würzburg Children’s University on Saturday 17 October.

Music researcher Professor Fabian Moss and ethnomusicologist Dr Clara Wenz will be hosting the next Würzburg Children’s University. On Saturday 17 October 2026, they will demonstrate just how diverse the world’s music sounds – from Franconian folk music to flamenco and West African drumming, right through to the oud, the Syrian lute.

Why is music from around the world so diverse? And what effect does music actually have on people? Can we communicate through music, even if we don’t speak a common language? These questions and more will be discussed at the Children’s University (in German language).

Who the Children’s University is for

The lecture is aimed at children aged between 6 and 13. To mark the start of the new Children’s University series, the children will be given a student ID card and a lecture booklet on the day. Parents, siblings and accompanying adults can follow the lecture live via video stream in another lecture theatre.

The Children’s University takes place four times during the school year. On Children’s University Saturdays, a lecture lasting around 30 minutes is held at 10.00 am in the university’s Audimax at Sanderring 2. The lecture is repeated at 10.45 am.

Registration for the music lecture is open until 16 October 2026 inclusive. Admission is free, but the university asks that you reserve a seat.
