Patient Information Afternoon on Deep Brain Stimulation
09/09/2025The University Hospital of Würzburg invites all interested parties to an information afternoon on 14 October 2025 on the current application possibilities of deep brain stimulation.

Deep brain stimulation (DBS) is primarily used to treat movement disorders such as Parkinson's disease, tremor and dystonia. It is also used to treat therapy-resistant epilepsy, obsessive-compulsive disorders and depression. The neurosurgical procedure, also known as a brain pacemaker, enables an individually controllable influence on neuronal networks.
At an information afternoon on Tuesday, 14 October 2025, the University Hospital of Würzburg (UKW) will provide patients, their relatives and medical colleagues with an overview of the diagnostics and treatment options required for DBS. Working groups and specialist teams from neurology, functional neurosurgery and psychiatry at the UKW will be involved.
A panel discussion will take place from 3 to 5 p.m. after short keynote speeches on safety, precision and the available DBS technologies. The event will take place in the lecture hall of the University Head Clinics on Josef-Schneider-Straße. Afterwards, there will be an opportunity for individual discussions and networking in the neighbouring patient café.
The information afternoon will take place in german. To participate in the free event, please register by 2 October 2025 with Ina Pfeiffer via pfeiffer_I@ukw.de or by telephone on 0931/ 201-24805.
