Harald Wehnes honoured with the Albert Endres Award
06/02/2026On 15 May 2026, the German chapter of the Association of Computing Machinery (ACM) presented Würzburg computer scientist Professor Harald Wehnes with the Albert Endres Award for his work in the field of digital sovereignty.
The Albert Endres Award recognises members' services to computer science in general and their commitment to the German Chapter of the Association of Computing Machinery (GChACM) in particular. Professor Harald Wehnes received the award for his work in the field of digital sovereignty, "characterised by scientific excellence and social responsibility", according to the laudator and Vice President of the GChACM, Gerhard Müller.
The power of data
How dependent is Europe really on global technology companies? And more importantly, what alternatives do we already have today to protect our data? In his Albert Endres Award speech "Digital sovereignty - my grandchildren are worth it to me", Professor Harald Wehnes showed why digital sovereignty is one of the key future issues of our time. It was not just about analysing, but above all about concrete solutions such as open source alternatives and practical ways to make the switch.
For Harald Wehnes, the "presentation of the Albert Endres Award as part of the ACM Annual Event 2026 at StackIT in Heilbronn was something very special. I really enjoyed the event and at the same time see it as motivation and an obligation to keep working on the topic."
The award ceremony took place as part of the annual conference of the German chapter of the ACM.
