Anyone who has always wanted to immerse themselves in virtual worlds using VR headsets, have a personalised avatar created following a body scan, or simply try out new computer games they’ve programmed themselves, should come to the Hubland Campus at the University of Würzburg on Friday, 17 July 2026.

From 10.00 am to 5.00 pm, researchers and students from the relevant degree programmes will be presenting more than 100 projects and prototypes from their fields. At the respective stands, visitors can have the projects explained to them and interact with the prototypes. Afterwards, they will have the opportunity to vote for the project they liked best.

Opening address by Digital Minister Fabian Mehring

The day will open with a welcome address by Fabian Mehring, Bavarian Minister of State for Digital Affairs since November 2023. Mehring will speak at 10.00 am in the CAIDAS building on the Hubland North Campus. He will then visit selected stands at the EXPO.

Free drinks and snacks will be available throughout the event. The award ceremony for the best project is scheduled for 4.30 pm in the foyer of the CAIDAS building. From 5.00 pm, the event will transition into a relaxed get-together with live music by the Australian musician Duncan Woods.

The programme

  • 10.00–10.30: Opening of the EXPO in the CAIDAS foyer
  • 10.30 am to 4.00 pm: Exhibition of projects from the Games Engineering and Human-Computer Interaction degree programmes (CAIDAS and Computer Science Building M2)
  • 10.30 am to 4.00 pm: Exhibition of projects from the Games Engineering and Computer Science degree programmes (Computer Science Building M2 and Z8)

Further information

The degree programmes taking part in the EXPO

The University of Würzburg established the Bachelor’s degree programme in Human-Computer Interaction (formerly Human-Computer Systems) and the subsequent Master’s degree programme in Human-Computer Interaction in response to new developments in society and technology. These degree programmes train specialists who, amongst other things, develop interactive computer systems and tailor them to users’ needs.

The Bachelor’s degree programme in Games Engineering provides the scientific and technical knowledge required for the development of modern computer games. These utilise a broad spectrum of computer science technologies, for example for the analysis of user input, the simulation of virtual game worlds or the synthesis of various output channels in real time.

The Bachelor’s degree programme in Computer Science and the Master’s degree programme in Computer Science, which builds on it, provide students with the scientific foundations and modern methods of computer science. Students acquire in-depth knowledge of the development of software systems, algorithms and IT infrastructures, as well as the ability to design and implement complex digital solutions for applications in science, business and society.
