Eunjeong Kim has been Consul General of the Frankfurt Consulate of the Republic of Korea (South Korea) since May 2025. On Wednesday, 11 February 2026, she visited Julius-Maximilians-Universität Würzburg (JMU).

University President Paul Pauli and Doris Fischer, Vice President for Internationalisation and Alumni, welcomed the Consul General at Neue Universität on Sanderring. Among other things, the conversation centred on President Pauli's upcoming trip to South Korea in May. The Consul General emphasised the growing interest of young Koreans in Germany as a place to study.

She also spoke in favour of expanding the range of courses on Korea at the University of Würzburg. The King Sejong Institute at JMU plays an important role in this programme. The mission of these state-run Korean Institutes is to promote Korean language education and culture worldwide. The courses on offer are free of charge and also available to interested parties outside the university. In addition, the Institute of East and South Asian Cultural Studies at the Chair of East Asian Cultural Studies will establish a lecturer position for Korean for the winter semester 2025/26.

All JMU students can complete the Koreanicum as part of the general key qualifications (ASQ) at the Institute of East and South Asian Cultural Studies. Interested students learn Korean within four semesters and immerse themselves in the history, culture, art and society of the East Asian state. This programme has been available to students since 2019; the high demand was one of the reasons why a King Sejong Institute was founded in Würzburg.

The Consul General also visited the Institute of East and South Asian Cultural Studies, where the King Sejong Institute is based. There she had talks with Professor Roland Altenburger, Head of the Chair of East Asian Cultural Studies, and Dr Michael Leibold.
