Piazzolla meets Gershwin: Charity concert for the care home

09/22/2026

The charity ‘Hilfe im Kampf gegen Krebs’ (Help in the Fight against Cancer) plans to set up a house near the hospital for the relatives of patients. To raise funds for this, ‘Vierfarben Saxophon & Freunde’ are holding a concert.

The charity concert will take place on Saturday, 17 October 2026, at 6 pm in the Great Hall of the Würzburg University of Music, Hofstallstraße 6–8. The Lions Clubs of Würzburg, Kitzingen, Ochsenfurt and Karlstadt are jointly organising the event.

Performing on stage will be the ensemble ‘Vierfarben Saxophon & Freunde’, featuring Stefan Weilmünster on soprano saxophone, Bastian Fiebig on alto saxophone, Susanne Riedl on tenor saxophone and Jürgen Faas on baritone saxophone. They will be accompanied by Thomas Humm on the accordion and Rudolf Ramming on the piano.

Tango, jazz and classical elements

Under the theme ‘Piazzolla meets Gershwin’, the evening will see tango, jazz and classical elements come together – spirited rhythms meet grand melodies.

The programme includes, amongst other pieces, Astor Piazzolla’s ‘Las cuatro estaciones porteñas de Buenos Aires’ as well as works by George Gershwin: Piano Concerto in F, Rhapsody in Blue, Three Preludes and a suite from ‘Porgy and Bess’.

Tickets are available from 25 euros at www.adticket.de. Enquiries regarding larger ticket allocations and sponsorship can be made via this email address: dagmar.dpi@gmail.com

A temporary home for relatives

The proceeds will go towards the family accommodation centre planned by the ‘Hilfe im Kampf gegen Krebs’ association in the historic Rotkreuzhof in Würzburg-Oberdürrbach.

Background: Serious illnesses such as cancer also change the lives of partners, parents, children and friends. Many patients have to travel long distances for their treatment and spend weeks or months away from home. It is precisely at such times that being close to loved ones can provide strength and support.

The planned centre for patient and family support is therefore intended to offer families a “temporary home” – a safe haven of comfort, tranquillity and support in the immediate vicinity of their sick loved ones.

“Anyone who buys a ticket and attends the concert will not only enjoy an extraordinary evening of music, but will also be helping to ensure that closeness remains possible even when illness tears people away from their everyday lives for a long time,” says Gabriele Nelkenstock, the association’s chairperson.
