How can anorexia in adults be prevented and treated in the long term? What risk factors play a role? How is the disorder recognised and which therapies are effective according to current scientific knowledge?

Anyone who would like to know the answers can attend a public lecture and discussion evening (in German language) on Thursday, 25 June 2026, from 18:00 to 20:00 in the Neubaukirche at the University of Würzburg.

The introductory lecture will be given by Professor Simone Munsch from the Department of Clinical Psychology and Psychotherapy at the University of Fribourg (Switzerland). Under the title "Anorexia Nervosa in adulthood - starting points for prevention and treatment", she will provide insights into the latest scientific findings. One focus of her presentation will be on the general psychological mechanisms that play a central role in anorexia nervosa and many other eating disorders.

In the subsequent panel discussion, the topic will be supplemented by further perspectives. In addition to experts from the fields of psychology, medicine and counselling, two affected women who produce the podcast "süß und essgestört" will also talk about their personal experiences. On the podium:

  • Caro and Claudi, podcast "sweet and eating disordered"
  • Jana Kürschner, Caritas addiction counselling centre Würzburg
  • Professor Simone Munsch, University of Fribourg
  • Professor Frank Schwab, Chair of Media Psychology, University of Würzburg
  • Professor Sebastian Walther, Director of the Clinic and Polyclinic for Psychiatry, Psychosomatics and Psychotherapy, University Hospital Würzburg

The evening will be moderated by Dr Christina Berndt from the Süddeutsche Zeitung.
