Alumni Association: New Executive Board Elected
12/02/2025Professor Peter Bofinger remains Chairman of Alumni & Friends e.V., the central alumni association of the University of Würzburg. Who else was elected.
Around 1,200 people are currently members of Alumni & Friends. The association is non-profit and promotes student initiatives such as the Franco-German dialogue forum. It is also committed to the "Ideen-Insel" project on campus: the first was opened in 2025. It is located on the lawn next to the Mensateria and consists of a semicircle with seating and group workstations, sheltered by awnings.
The association also supports the Deutschlandstipendien programme at the University of Würzburg, this year with four scholarships. These benefit outstanding and socially committed students at JMU.
The Results of the Board Election
A new Executive Board was elected at the General Assembly on 19 November 2025. It will remain in office for two years; new elections will be held at the 2027 General Assembly.
Peter Bofinger, long-standing professor at JMU, former member of the German Council of Economic Experts and currently Senior Professor of Economics, Money and International Economic Relations at JMU, was confirmed as Chairman.
The following were also elected:

- Treasurer: Professor Hansrudi Lenz
- Secretary: Dr Julien Bobineau
- Assessor: Dr Gisela Blumenauer
- Assessor: Professor Georg Ertl
- Assessor: Emma Phelan
- Assessor: Dr Christian Seynstahl
Gudrun Grieser, the former mayor of Schweinfurt and JMU alumna, is stepping down from the Board; she did not stand for re-election.
The following persons are also members of the Executive Board by virtue of their office:
- University President Paul Pauli
- University Vice-President Doris Fischer, responsible for alumni affairs, among other things
- University Chancellor Dr Uwe Klug
Commitment of the assessors
The assessors are involved in various fields. Emma Phelan, for example, is committed to the international area, Georg Ertl to the cheerful wine lecture, Christian Seynstahl to the specialised geography subgroup and Gisela Blumenauer to the new interest group Wine-Culture-Active.
