Structural embedding
The field of sustainability at JMU is represented by the JMU Sustainability Commission, which was established in 2013 under the current leadership of Vice President Prof Dr Anja Schlömerkemper.
The commission advises the university on sustainability issues and supports university initiatives in this field. Voluntary sustainability initiatives by university members, e.g. the "CampusGarten", run by the Ecology Department of the Student's Representation, or the "Lebendiger Campus" initiative, organised by members of the Faculty of Biology, are also supported and their activities are closely linked to "regular" university operations wherever possible. Numerous measures initiated by these initiatives have now been established or will be included in future plans.
The Sustainability Commission also has the right to nominate candidates for the annual "Albrecht Fürst zu Castell-Castell Prize for Sustainable Action at the University of Würzburg"
In addition, the institutionalised monthly meetings between the university management and the student speakers' council, as well as a variety of measures for university-wide quality assurance, contribute to a university climate that addresses sustainable action at various levels through intensive dialogue.
The main task of the contact point is to set up an information portal on which sustainability measures at JMU are compiled and thus made generally known. In the case of external enquiries about sustainability at JMU, the contact point can provide information or refer people to the right contact person within the university.
Within the university, the contact point aims to bring together existing sustainability initiatives, create networks, pool information and develop further concepts for sustainability at the university together with the relevant departments.
