Founded under the leadership of Prof Dr Karl-Eduard Linsenmair in the early 1990s, the JMU Tropical Ecology Research Station in Comoé National Park in the north of the country was officially inaugurated in 2017 as a cooperation project between Ivorian universities and nature conservation authorities and JMU following the civil war in Côte d'Ivoire and the subsequent reconstruction work. The research station offers scientists and students from JMU, the Ivorian partner universities and external guests excellent opportunities to research questions on biodiversity, ecology, regeneration potential and the response to external factors (climate change, etc...) in tropical habitats.
