Office of Occupational Health and Safety, Animal Welfare and Environmental Protection
Our primary goals are to ensure sustainable health protection for employees and students by creating safe or low-risk working conditions and environmentally friendly, resource-saving and economical waste disposal. Undesirable developments and problems in general occupational safety and in the handling of biological, chemical and radioactive substances should be recognised, stopped or avoided at an early stage.
Scientific institutions such as the University of Würzburg have a special obligation to protect animals. The animal welfare officers based in our staff ensure the development and maintenance of uniform — high — quality targets within the framework of the applicable animal welfare legislation, which must do justice to both the protection of animals and scientific standardisation in the keeping and examination of animals.
Through dialogue with employees at all hierarchical levels, discussions with those responsible, staff training and continuing education for employees, we want to convince those responsible and all employees that compliance with and adhence to protection goals and protective measures, as defined in the various standards of occupational safety, health, animal welfare and environmental protection, in their own interest as a voluntary achievement and no longer as an bothersome duty.
As part of the tasks assigned to us, we offer assistance and support, especially for those responsible on site, so that research and teaching, among other things, can run smoothly and undisturbed. Take advantage of the expertise of the department of Occupational Safety, Health, Animal Welfare and Environmental Protection, which has been accumulated over many years.
