About the talk
Why does “growth” remain such a powerful promise, even as its social and ecological costs become harder to ignore? This talk examines financial centres as key sites where the future is transformed into present-day credit, liquidity, and investment. Loans, securities, money market funds, and other financial techniques do not simply support “the economy” but help define what counts as economically valuable and productive. By placing credit and liquidity at the centre of the story, the talk asks how financial centres sustain the growth imperative – and where alternative interventions for a sustainable future might begin.
