ZPD Visiting Fellowships 2027: call for applications

09/07/2026

The ZPD is offering short-term visiting research fellowships (1-3 months) for tenure in Würzburg between 1 January and 30 November 2027 (closing date: 15 October 2026).

As a central research institution at the University of Würzburg, the Centre for Philology and Digitality ‘Kallimachos’ (ZPD) combines humanities and computer science in one building. Its purpose is innovative digital humanities research and the development of new computational methods for the humanities. The research building, which opened in 2023, houses various professorships, a research centre and many research projects, bringing together knowledge and expertise from different fields of humanities and computer science research under one roof.

We invite applications for visiting fellowships tenable in Würzburg for a period of one to three months between 1 January and 30 November 2027.

  • The fellowships amount to EUR 3000 per month for senior scholars (PhD degree awarded before 1 January 2022), EUR 2000 per month for postdocs (PhD degree awarded after 31 December 2021) and EUR 1000 per month for doctoral students. The fellowships do not include health insurance or social benefits and may be liable to taxation in the country of residence.

  • The President of Würzburg University offers ZPD fellows free membership of SCIAS (Siebold-Collegium Institute for Advanced Studies) and free accommodation at the Welz-Haus (Klinikstraße 6, 97070 Würzburg), a newly restored 18th-century building: https://www.uni-wuerzburg.de/en/scias/

  • Fellows will be offered office facilities at the ZPD building in Würzburg and are expected to work at the ZPD most of the time. Fellows will be given access to the research facilities of the ZPD, including server services and GPUs.

  • Applicants should have research experience on innovative digital humanities topics or the development of new computational methods for the humanities. The fellows are expected to do research in an area relevant to a project or professorship hosted at the ZPD. The projects, professorships, and the research unit DACHS are described on the website: https://www.uni-wuerzburg.de/en/zpd/projects/, https://www.uni-wuerzburg.de/en/zpd/chairs/, and https://www.uni-wuerzburg.de/en/zpd/dachs-research-centre/

  • Applications should be sent in English to the managing director Prof. Dr. Dag Nikolaus Hasse by email (zpd-applications@uni-wuerzburg.de) before 15 October 2026. Applications should include a complete CV with a list of publications and a research proposal (on an area relevant to a project or professorship hosted at the ZPD) of no more than 500 words. Applicants are asked to state in their research proposal the preferred duration of the fellowship (one, two or three months) and to propose a starting date.
