Climate protection and climate adaptation in local government - a multidisciplinary field of work

Date: 01/15/2026, 4:15 PM - 5:45 PM
Category: Fakultät für Humanwissenschaften, talk

Speaker: Dr. Christian Göpfert

Climate protection becomes tangible and concrete at the local level. At the local level, the consequences of advancing climate change are already clearly perceptible.
The changed reality of life creates motivation and pressure to act for adaptation measures.

The local authority - the city of Würzburg - plays a central role here, or even several roles: as a role model, it takes care of the energy efficiency of its own properties; as a planner and regulator, it sets concrete guidelines for climate-optimised construction; it is also a supplier of renewable energy through local municipal utilities; and it is an advisor for local people, for example on energy-efficient refurbishment, adaptation to heat extremes or climate-friendly behaviour - and much more.

The aim is to strategically manage and coordinate these topics, utilise synergies and generally integrate climate protection and climate adaptation into all areas of life and work ("mainstreaming"). This is a multidisciplinary task. It is a task that requires cooperation between people from different specialised professions - and can also offer an exciting perspective for humanities scholars.
