VAD (Association for African Studies in Germany) conference

This year's VAD conference had the topic "Africa challanges" and took place from June 7 to 11, 2021.

At the event, PhD students from Subproject F gave presentations in which they presented preliminary findings from their research on vigilantism in Burkina Faso.  Nestor Zanté spoke on June 9 on the topic "When the State fails to provide security: vigilantism and coproduction of security in rural Burkina Faso." Janneke Tiegna provided an insight into her research on June 10 in her presentation, "Security Crisis in Burkina Faso: (Re)actions of the population."
Due to the COVID19 pandemic, the event was held digitally.
