In this introductory workshop, university lecturers new to teaching, or wanting to revise their courses, in order to promote student activation, will be introduced to key didactic concepts, such as Constructive Alignment, motivational-, and phase-oriented course design. Through hands-on activities, they will write down learning outcomes, start designing methods/-tasks for assessment, evaluation, activation, and feedback, to apply these in their course planning and delivery straightaway.

Topics:

  • Constructive Alignment & Learning Outcomes
  • Course Planning & Structured Lesson Plans
  • Phase-Oriented Course Design & Motivational Design
  • Didactic Reduction
  • Forms of Assessment
  • Student Activation
  • Evaluation & Constructive Feedback

Methodology: There will be a mix of theoretical input and practical application in the workshop.

  • On Day 1 (8 CU), participants work individually, in pairs, and in small groups (breakout sessions) to plan their courses using core didactic principles.
  • Between sessions, a guided online assignment (2 CU) allows participants to design a specific didactic method (oder teaching strategy) and create related student tasks for immediate use in their courses.
  • Day 2 (6 CU) focuses on refinement of participants' teaching concepts, including strategies for using feedback constructively.

Key Takeaways for Your Teaching Practice: After completing the workshop, you will have a set of specified learning outcomes, matching forms of assessment, evaluation, and activation, including student tasks that you can apply in one of your courses right away. In addition to selecting a variety of methods to activate students in different phases of a session, you will also choose feedback formats to use during the semester.
