If you were recently appointed for a new managerial position or have just taken up employment in a new company or received a professorship, you will surely be facing numerous challenges and responsibilities. At the same time, this is your unique opportunity to live up to your own goals and develop your unit and its employees in line with your expectations and objectives. As swiftness and performance are critical success factors in leadership, it is significant to use this starting phase – often referred to as the first crucial 100 days – wisely and efficiently.
Our short lecture aims to touch on and discuss some of the most critical issues arising in this context: What is the difference between leadership and management? How can I learn to define myself in my new role as a leader? What are best practices and tools that I can learn from? While there is probably no universal approach on how to prepare for a new leadership role, reflecting on these key questions will surely help you achieve your goals with more self-assurance and efficiency.
