Retro Computing Lab

A large part of the cultural heritage of the recent past is digital: These artifacts includes large quantities of hardware and software, especially since the 1970s and 1980s. Collecting and studying these witnesses of their time is task of the Retro Computing Lab at the ZPD.

The 8- and 16-bit home computers of the 1980s form the centrepiece of the collection. These include the typical representatives of this era from Commodore, Apple, Atari, Texas Instruments and Amstrad/Schneider, together with associated software titles. Another focus is on the so-called DiskMags, which were catalogued in a research project based at the ZPD. Some (video) game consoles are also collected.

The collection is never complete. We are therefore very grateful for tips, information and equipment donations. We are also happy to answer any questions you may have. Research co-operations in the field of retrocomputing and the restoration of old files are also possible.
