Research Centre for Digital Applications in Humanities Studies (DACHS)

In order to support scholars of the humanities, cultural and human sciences in answering their specific research questions with the help of computer science concepts and methods, the Research Centre for Digital Applications in Humanities Studies (DACHS) provides a team of experienced scientists as well as state-of-the-art technical equipment, an optimal working environment and software solutions for interdisciplinary research.

The following key applications of the research centre have emerged from previous research projects of our cooperation partners:

  • The generation of research data through automatic text recognition using Optical Character Recognition (OCR) and Handwritten Text Recognition (HTR) forms the basis for further operationalisation and (computer-aided) analysis.
  • Advice for and cooperation with humanities scholars and cultural scientists who wish to create or retro-digitise a digital edition as part of their research project.
  • The modelling and realisation of semantic databases using Semantic MediaWiki.
