    General questions

    How do I use WueStudy on a mobile device? Will I have to download an app?

    You will not have to download an app. Just open the WueStudy portal page in your browser (we recommend you use Chrome) and log in. WueStudy uses an automatic login feature; you will only have to enter your log in details once. For a list of the mobile devices on which the automatic login feature is enabled, log in to the desktop version of WueStudy, go to ‘Login settings‘ and select ‘Device administration’. In that section, you can also disable the automatic login feature.

    I wanted to print documents from my iPad but did not find any files for download. Why is that?

    It is currently not possible to print documents from an iPad or the mobile Safari browser. This is why you did not find any files for download (e. g. on the ‘Official documents’ tab in the ‘My studies -> ‘Student services’ section). We are planning to make the feature available in the future. Until then, please print your documents from your PC or laptop.

     

    Student services

    Why can I download documents that are not relevant to me?

    If you go to ‘My studies’ -> ‘Student services’ -> tab ‘Official documents’ or ‘My studies’ -> ‘My achievements’ -> ‘Official documents’, you will find four documents ready for download. One of them is relevant only to law students, one is relevant only to medical students. Unfortunately, we are currently not able to hide these two documents if they are not relevant to a particular student. If you download a document that is not relevant to you, it will contain a note indicating that fact.

     

    The ‘List of modules I have passed’ which I downloaded does not contain any modules or does not contain the modules I expected to find there. Why is that?

    That list is generated for only one degree at a time. Please make sure that, in the ‘My degree programmes’ section above the download link (you might have to expand that section first), you selected subjects under one degree only. It does not matter which semester you selected. Please also note that the list will be empty if no assessment results have been entered into the records for the subject you selected.

     

    I need a document that bears a verification code. What do I do?

    Log in to the WueStudy portal, select ‘Student services’, and go to the ‘Official documents’ tab. On that tab, click the printer icon in the ‘Bereits angeforderte Bescheinigungen’ (‘Requested documents’) section to download the document. If that section is not displayed, please ask your contact at Student Affairs to generate an enrolment certificate bearing a verification code for you. To download that document, please proceed as described above.

     

    Are my official documents available in English?

    Yes, you can download English versions of your official documents (your enrolment certificate, a list of the modules you have passed, etc.). To do so, simply change the portal language to English (see button in the bottom right-hand corner) before you download your documents.

     

    Courses/class schedule

    When is the class schedule published?

    The class schedule is usually published on the Friday three weeks before the last day of the lecture period of the previous semester. The class schedule for the summer semester 2019 will be published during the course of the day on 25 January 2019.

    I have registered for a course. What is the difference between the status ‘Registered’ and the status ‘Admitted’?

    If your status is ‘Registered’, places on the course have not been allocated yet. You have not secured a place on the course in question until your status has been changed to ‘Admitted’.

    Where do I find the courses offered in the winter semester 2018/19 or earlier semesters?

    You will find the courses offered in the winter semester 2018/19 or earlier semesters in the SB@Home archive. You can still register for some of the courses offered in the winter semester 2018/19 via that archive. As of 1 April 2019, you will find the courses offered in earlier semesters in the SB@Home archive. Once the new class schedule has been published on 25 January 2019, courses offered in the summer semester 2019 or later semesters will only be listed in WueStudy. Registrations for courses offered in the summer semester 2019 or later semesters must be made via WueStudy. Registrations for assessments - including assessments offered in the winter semester 2018/19 - must be made via WueStudy.

     

    How can I tell if registrations for a course are currently being accepted?

    Go to your study planner. If registrations are currently being accepted for a particular course, you will see a ‘Register’ button next to that course.You can also check the ‘Associated periods’ section on the course details page for a particular course for information on registration deadlines for that course.

     

    Assessments

    I will have to register for assessments in late 2018 or early 2019. What do I have to keep in mind?

    You must register for each assessment you are planning to take within the designated registration periods. There are three different situations:

    • If the registration period for an assessment ends on or before 14 December 2018 (the end date will usually be 11 December 2018 or earlier), you must register for that assessment via SB@Home.
    • If the registration period for an assessment starts on or after 7 January 2019 (the start date will usually be 15 January 2019 or later), you must register for that assessment via WueStudy.
    • If the registration period for an assessment starts on or before 14 December 2018 and ends on or after 7 January 2019, you will be able to register via SB@Home until 17:00 on 14 December 2018 (the date and time when SB@Home goes offline) and via WueStudy from 8:00 on 7 January 2019 (the date and time when WueStudy goes live). You will NOT be able to register while the system is down.

    In situations 1 and 3 we would advise you to register via SB@Home as soon as possible and retain a printout of the document confirming for which assessments you have registered.

    The system won’t let me register for assessments. Why is that?

    When you cannot register for a particular assessment or assessments in general, this is most likely to be due to one of the following reasons:

    • You did not select the correct semester in your study planner. Select the semester in which the assessment in question is offered from the box on the top left-hand side.
    • You did not expand the module in question in your study planner. One way to have all assessments displayed in your study planner is to click ‘Hide courses’, ‘Show assessments’, and ‘Expand all’.
    • You have already passed the assessment in question. To find out if this is the case, check the entry in the ‘Status’ column in your study planner. At JMU, you are usually not permitted to resit or retake assessments you have passed already.
    • You were admitted to the assessment in question in an earlier semester, and the result has not been entered into the records yet. Please get in touch with the competent module coordinator.
    • You are on leave of absence. Please read the answer to the question ‘I am currently on leave of absence. Why won’t the system let me register for assessments?’ below.
    • You are enrolled in a doctoral programme, or you are an exchange programme student. If you are an exchange programme student, please read the answer to the question ‘I am an exchange programme student. The system won’t let me register for assessments, and I cannot find my study planner. Why is that?’ below.
    I am currently on leave of absence. Why won’t the system let me register for assessments?

    Students on leave of absence cannot register for assessments via WueStudy. While on leave of absence from your studies, you are not allowed to take assessments. However, exceptions apply to students on maternity/parental leave, students taking a leave of absence for family caregiving reasons as well as students who wish to retake failed assessments. If an exception applies to you, email the competent official at the Examination Office  during the registration period for the assessment in question and provide the following information: your first name, surname, and student ID number, the assessment number (6 digits, starts with a 3) and date as well as the name of the competent examiner.

     

    I am an exchange programme student. The system won’t let me register for assessments, and I cannot find my study planner. Why is that?

    There are no examination regulations with mandatory courses and mandatory electives that apply to you as an exchange programme student (ERASMUS etc.). This is why there is no study planner and you cannot register for assessments via WueStudy. To register for an assessment, please contact the competent examiner directly.

     

    I am studying for a teaching degree. The system won’t let me register for assessments in my Erweiterungsfach subject, and I cannot find my study planner for that subject. Why is that?

    There are no examination regulations with mandatory courses and mandatory electives for your Erweiterungsfach subject. This is why there is no study planner for, and you cannot register for assessments via WueStudy in, that subject. To register for an assessment, please contact the competent examiner directly.

     

    What do the abbreviations in the ‘Status’ column of my study planner stand for?

    See below for a list of abbreviations and what they stand for.

    Assessments: BE = passed assessment, NB = failed assessment, ZU = admitted to assessment

    Modules: BE = passed, PV = started but not completed yet, EN = failed final attempt

    Ledgers: VB = conditional pass (equivalent to a pass), PV = not passed yet, EN = failed final attempt

    Degree ledger 2000: VB = conditional pass (equivalent to a pass), PV = not passed yet, EN = failed final attempt

    Notes:

    1. The letters in the abbreviations above stand for the German names of the statuses. If the status of a module or ledger is ‘PV’, this means that there are courses, assessments, modules, etc. assigned to it, but you have not passed that module/ledger yet.
    2. If the status of an element is ‘BE’ (pass), ‘NB’ (fail), or ‘EN’ (failed final attempt), this means that your grade has been entered into the system.

    You can also hover your mouse over a status to see its name.

    Study planner/modules

    In my study planner, I came across the term ‘multi-connected elements’. What does it mean?

    So-called ‘multi-connected elements’ are connected to two or more modules or areas of your programme. When you register for an assessment (or course), please make sure you choose the module or area to which you want the element to be assigned.

    What do I have to do to have the courses and assessments for which I can register displayed in my study planner?

    Click the plus icon next to the number and title of a module for a list of the courses and assessments that are assigned to that module. Alternatively, click ‘Expand all’ on the top right hand side. The list will also tell you whether courses are offered in the semester you selected (summer semester 2019 or later semesters). If registrations for a course or an assessment are currently being accepted, you will see a ‘Register’ button in the ‘Actions’ column.     A module is displayed in my study planner, but I cannot expand it. Why is that?

    If there is no plus icon next to a particular module in your study planner, this means that the module contains so-called ‘multi-connected elements’, i. e. assessments or courses that are connected to two or more modules of your programme. To have those multi-connected elements displayed, click ‘Expand all’ on the top right-hand side. This error will disappear with the next version of WueStudy.
