University Tent 2023

At the Africa Festival 2023, which took place from 26 to 29 May 2023 in Würzburg, the Forum Africa Centre was again represented with the university tent. During these days, the Julius-Maximilians-University of Würzburg was pleased to welcome H.E. Ambassador Stone Sizani from South Africa on May 27, 2023 at Sanderring to the photo exhibition on Nelson Mandela.

In the university tent, the Forum Africa Centre presented this year a poster exhibition on three Africa-related projects at the University of Würzburg.

  • The Else Kröner Center for Advanced Medical & Medical Humanitarian Studies Würzburg - Mwanza informed about the fight against schistosomiasis in Tanzania – a parasitic disease that affects more than 70% of the people living around Lake Victoria.

  • The Institute of Geography and Geology presented its projects on remote sensing in Africa.

  • Finally, the Chair of Museology presented the new project GreenMuseumHub: Sustainable Futures for Museums and Heritage Sites, a cooperation between Germany, Tunisia and Egypt.

We are happy about the numerous visitors and thank you for many interesting conversations. Special thanks go to the organizers Guido Fackler, Michael Thiel, Franziska Pietsch and many other helpers like Nicole Winter!

South African Ambassador visits the University of Würzburg

The Julius-Maximilians-University of Würzburg was pleased to welcome H.E. Ambassador Stone Sizani from South Africa on May 27, 2023 at Sanderring to the photo exhibition on Nelson Mandela. He was accompanied by the singer Thabilé, who received the Festival Award at the opening of the Africa festival the day before.

Ambassador Sizani was imprisoned on Robben Island for five years together with Nelson Mandela and was impressed and deeply moved by the pictures.

Dr. Oschmann, head of the Africa Festival, offered in the presence of the university president Prof. Dr. Paul Pauli to handover the photo exhibition for a whole year, so that many more visitors can get these exciting visual impressions of the former president of the Republic of South Africa and one of the greatest personalities of the last decades.

In view of the numerous research projects of the institutions and researchers organized in the Forum Africa Centre of JMU as well as the long-standing, intensive relationships with partner universities and institutions in Africa, we are very pleased about this publicly visible commitment with and to the continent of Africa, which is also becoming increasingly important for us.
