Overview
The higher education teaching development programme supports you in purposefully enhancing your teaching, exploring new didactic approaches, and making your teaching competencies visible. The offerings range from individual courses to structured certificate programmes.
Target Group: The programme is aimed at all academic staff at Bavarian universities who are actively involved in teaching. You may participate in individual offerings or pursue a full certificate.
Currently, we offer 2 places per course in our English-language seminars and 10 places in our English self-paced online courses for teaching staff from the CHARM-EU alliance.
Certificate Programmes: Bavarian universities provide their teaching staff with the opportunity to systematically develop their higher education teaching competencies. The content and structure of this professional development align with international standards and can be completed with the Higher Education Teaching Certificate of Bavarian Universities (basic, advanced, or specialization level). Thanks to the uniform certification across Bavaria, you receive formal recognition of your pedagogical and didactic qualifications, which can serve as documented evidence of your teaching expertise in future job applications.
Teaching staff who wish to engage specifically with issues of sustainable development in the higher education context have the option to obtain the Certificate in Higher Education for Sustainable Development. As part of this certificate, participants explore fundamental concepts, methods, and fields of action in Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) and develop approaches to integrate these into their own teaching. Please note that this certificate programme is currently offered only in German.
Further information about the programmes can be found on the following pages:
The courses are offered in a variety of formats, including face-to-face sessions, online seminars, blended learning programmes, and self-directed courses. The key thematic areas include:
- Planning, delivery, and evaluation of teaching sessions
- Active learning methods and pedagogical approaches
- Digital teaching and learning formats
- Use of artificial intelligence in teaching
- Inclusive and diversity-sensitive teaching practices
- Education for sustainable development
- Assessment and feedback
- Student advising and support
- Peer exchange and reflective practice on teaching roles
The sessions
- comply with the formal standards set in Bavaria (45 minutes of course time corresponds to one credit unit)
- provide a thematic overview of the subject as well as thought-provoking impulses for your teaching
- may, depending on the topic, mode, and facilitator, focus more on knowledge transfer (input) or social teaching and learning methods (breakout rooms, group work)
- allow for exchange with fellow educators on challenges and best practice examples in teaching during longer formats
- offer space for individual practice and reflection
The professional development programme is aimed at academic staff from all Bavarian universities who are actively engaged in teaching. External teaching staff are also warmly welcome — please note that a participation fee may apply in such cases.
Currently, we also allocate two places in all English-language courses and ten places in self-directed courses to teaching staff from the CHARM-EU alliance.
If you are looking to further your professional development in your role as a student tutor, we gladly refer you to the Advisory and Professional Development Services for Students.
Individual consultations, peer observations, teaching workshops, participation in the Teaching Analysis Poll, as well as registration for the specialization certificate level are exclusively available to teaching staff at the University of Würzburg.

To participate in a TAP session, or to attend the teaching workshop, peer observation, or advanced certificate level, please send us an email.
If you are unable to attend an event, please notify us by email. Kindly ensure that cancellations are communicated exclusively to us and not directly to external facilitators.
If there are available places ten days before the seminar begins, you will automatically move up from the waiting list. If the course is already fully booked, you will be offered a place if a registered participant cancels. In both cases, you will be notified by email.
Please note:
- In accordance with the guidelines of the German Association for Academic Development (dghd), we can only issue a certificate of attendance if you were present for at least 75% of the contact time.
- The number of credit units stated in the course descriptions can only be awarded in full if you attend the entire session.
- For any absences, credit units will be deducted (1 unit per 30 minutes of absence, based on 45 minutes per unit).
If you are missing a small number of units in a specific area required for the certificate, please get in touch with us. We will work with you to find an individual solution.
At present, our courses are free of charge for teaching staff at the University of Würzburg.
The contribution fees for external participants are as follows:
- Teaching staff from the ProfiLehrePlus network: 8 credit units = €35; 12 units = €50
- Teaching staff at Bavarian universities of music: 1 credit units = €25
- Other external participants: 8 credit units = €390; 12 units = €585
Payment is possible by bank transfer only. Payment via PayPal is not permitted.
For fee-based courses, cancellations are free of charge up to eight days before the course begins. After that, the full course fee will be charged—unless a replacement participant can be found.
You will receive the invoice details together with your certificate of attendance after the seminar. A confirmation of payment will be sent by post once the bank transfer has been received.
If you are unable to attend due to illness, please notify us by email. You then have up to three days after the course date to submit a medical certificate (as a photo or scan by email) to be eligible for a refund of the course fee.
External participants require a guest account to access the university’s internal platform, WueCampus. To register, please follow these steps:
- Go to WueCampus
- Click on “New Account Form”
- Follow the instructions provided on the page
Once you have created your account, please log in to WueCampus at least once. Only then will your name appear in the system as a potential course participant. After completing this step, inform us so that we can grant you access to the relevant course space in a timely manner.
