    Project 9

Sphingolipid metabolic pathways in infection control by the use of chemically synthesized modified sphingolipids and in the era of sphingolipidomics

    Burkhard Kleuser, Jürgen Seibel

Project 9 combines bioorthogonal functional chemistry and mass spectrometric methods for the identification and analysis of metabolic breakdown products of specific sphingolipids involved in infection. Click labelling of custom-made sphingolipid analogs and their specific detection is a very helpful method to study sphingolipid signaling and localization on a cellular level. Thus, the project seems to provide novel insights of the molecular mechanisms sphingolipids play in infection.
