The notion of self-curse as a mechanism for punishing transgression is a key part of the Mesopotamian exorcist's conception of sin and its consequences. By examining the rituals and incantations that concern these curses, their effects, and their removal, I offer new insights into Mesopotamian conceptions of transgression and its punishment.
