Forum Africa Centre of Julius-Maximilians-Universität of Würzburg

The Forum Africa Centre of Julius-Maximilians-Universität of Würzburg is an association of researchers who have been working closely with partners in Africa for many years.

Our goal is to network this research and cooperation, and to make it better known to the public through events, and thus at the same time providing an insight into the cultural and scientific landscapes of the African continent.

Within the Forum Africa Centre, the Young Africa Centre has been established as the platform for young researchers interested in Africa.

Visit the University Tent at the Africa Festival 2025

From May 29 to June 1, 2025, the Forum Africa Centre will once again be represented with the university tent at Europe's largest and oldest festival for African music and culture. The University Tent of the Julius-Maximilian University of Würzburg (JMU) has been an integral part of the Africa Festival for 15 years. In the tent, we will present a selection of the many Africa-related projects of JMU. Visit us from May 29th in the university tent!

Visit the University Tent at the Africa Festival 2025

From May 29 to June 1, 2025, the Forum Africa Centre will once again be represented with the university tent at Europe's largest and oldest festival for African music and culture.

Am 10. und 11. Dezember 2024 nahmen Mitglieder des Forum Afrikazentrum (FAZ) an der Cooperation Lounge Africa-Europe: Science meets Politics in Brüssel teil.

With/About Africa: Radio Astronomy in Africa

With the Square Kilometer Array (SKA), the world's future largest radio telescope is currently under construction. More precisely, it involves two networks of many antennas and individual telescopes: one is located in Australia, the other is being built in South Africa and should be fully operational in the early 2030s. The Chair of Astronomy at JMU is involved in preparatory projects such as the MeerKAT array together with African and global partner groups.
