Information and activities of the BuKoF Commission "Equal Opportunities for Women in Technology and Administration"

The BuKoF commission "Equal Opportunities for Female Employees in Technology and Administration - MTV" deals with the topic of equal opportunities for non-academic staff. With around 65,000 employees, this is the largest group at German universities.

In contrast to classification in the academic sector, which is based purely on degrees, the collective agreement requirements for MTV employees are the job characteristics. It is not an educational qualification, but the assignment of tasks and the job evaluation that determine the classification. The work to be performed is assessed, not the person or their educational qualification. Who and how this work is evaluated has been an issue for 40 years now and there have been many attempts to "valorise women's jobs". Studies, including at EU level, have identified discriminatory elements in the BAT (now) TV-L and are calling for their removal. It is about equal pay for work of equal value.
