Graduate interview: Anna - Communications Manager
01/15/2021After graduating, Anna worked as Junior Communications Manager at Jazzunique GmbH. Her tasks include the planning and realisation of brand appearances, social media and community management as well as the conception of new brands and campaigns. Before and during her bachelor's degree in media communication, she gained experience through internships, a working student job and training as a media designer.
What did you study at the University of Würzburg?
I graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Media Communication in 2019.
What is your current job?
I am a Junior Communications Manager. I work in an interdisciplinary team with the Units/Internal Architecture/Design/Campaign both on client projects and in internal marketing.
Which company/employer do you work for?
Jazzunique GmbH. Event agency in Frankfurt am Main in the Design and Campaign unit.
What are your tasks?
- Planning and realisation of various brand appearances online and offline as well as at trade fairs/events (textual and graphic).
- Social media management internally and for our clients (community management, image selection, posts, story content, reporting)
- Conception of new brands and campaigns for pitch presentations
How did you orientate yourself professionally during and after your studies?
Through internships and part-time jobs.

- Skills from media informatics (Adobe Creative Cloud, HTML, CSS, Javascript)

How did you acquire additional skills (e.g. workshops and seminars, internships, part-time job, associations, voluntary work, trainee, further training, etc.)?
- Internships with a photographer and an email marketing agency
- Working student at an e-commerce company (responsible for the graphic design of product labels, product design, online graphics, image editing, etc.)
- Trained as a media designer (digital) before studying
- Part-time job in the social media management of a restaurant
Do you have any general tips for professional orientation and career planning?
Also attend seminars that are not on the lecture programme. For example, I took a podcasting seminar and a social media seminar to gain a more detailed insight into the media that are currently used a lot.
What do you recommend to students who want to work in your industry or profession?
It's best to gain a lot of work experience through internships and part-time jobs, as this is a very large professional field in which you have to specialise at some point.
