"Fieldwork transforms the ethnographer — not only their view, but their methods. This lecture traces that claim through a gallery of cases: how the atmospheres of a Hamburg music venue, the Golden Pudel Club, led me to start drawing 'live' in the field, and how drawing grew from a coping gesture into the pillar of a multimodal ethnography of puzzlement — across contemporary art, music theatre, design research, and neurosurgical map-making. Sketching, I argue, is not illustration but a logic of inquiry in its own right."
