[The Universal Declaration on Cultural Diversity (2001) and the Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage (2003) focus on the preservation of humanity's cultural heritage. In the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) (2015), on the other hand, cultural practices are rarely mentioned and the contribution of artistic activities to global sustainability processes is not mentioned at all. Yet the desired social transformation process is not even conceivable without artistic mediation of the issues. The seminar introduces the theories of cultural sustainability, musical sustainability and eco musicology. Using case studies from international research, students should learn to critically discuss issues of cultural sustainability in their own lifeworld and to distinguish between economic, social, ecological, and cultural levels. They should be able to name the cultural dimensions in the SDGs and justify them argumentatively.]
