Each year about three percent of the Globe’s population is crossing the border of their home country, staying abroad more than three months. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), one out twelve of the residents of the member states of WHO European region has a migratory background.

Migrants are representing not only the morbidity profile and public health conditions of their country of origin, but ‘bring’ with them their cultural and religious background, health believes and health attitudes as well. That is the reason why the health care systems of the transit and target countries have to be prepared for facing with these new challenges, learn about a new subject and attitude as ‘cultural competence’.

WHO and the European Centre of Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) have developed the protocol of the ‘Migrant Sensitive Health Care System,’ requesting member states to implement or strengthen it. Its purpose and main elements will be discussed during the presentation of Prof. Istvan Szilard from the University of Pécs Medical School and Co-head of the WHO Collaborating Centre for Migration Health Training and Research.

Prof. August Stich from the University of Würzburg will talk about the health situation and access (barriers) to health care for refugees and migrants based on his vast experience of migrant medicine in Germany.

The lecture will take place on Wednesday, 01.12.2021 at 5 pm via Zoom.
