General information

The overall goal of the ‘Digital Furniture Use Chain’ experiment is to make the use of existing furniture resources within the University of Würzburg more sustainable, efficient and transparent. We want to create a web-based platform that university employees can use to easily share and pass on furniture they no longer need. This gives furniture a second life and means it does not have to be bought new or thrown away. This conserves resources and reduces new purchases, which is an important step towards greater sustainability at the University of Würzburg. At the same time, the entire process should become clearer and more user-friendly for everyone involved.

The idea for such a platform originated in space management, which is regularly confronted with unused furniture and has highlighted the need for a digital solution for internal transfer. New furniture is often purchased even though suitable items may still be available. At the same time, usable pieces remain in storage or are even disposed of. Ultimately, this results in unnecessary costs, additional effort and avoidable environmental impact.
This is exactly where our platform comes in: it makes inventories visible, connects supply and demand, and enables the easy transfer of furniture.
