Citizen Science Day featured a range of activities and talks exploring how everyone can contribute to biodiversity and scientific research.

Breeding bird monitoring starting at 6 a.m. on the campus, we meet at pillar 7 in front of the greenhouse on the parking space of the Biocentre.

At Citizen Science Day, people of all ages can learn about and try their hand at citizen science and biodiversity research on the university campus. Admission is free, and no registration is required.

The first breeding bird survey at Hubland delivered breeding evidence for several species.

Amidst beautiful weather and with a lot of enthusiasm and dedication, the “Orchard Care” course organised by the Living Campus initiative took place on Saturday, 28 February 2026. Twenty participants – students and staff from the University of Würzburg – gathered at the orchard near the Biozentrum to work together.

From 24 March, the ‘Living Campus’ initiative is inviting all members of the university to enjoy an active lunch break. Every two weeks, a variety of activities will take place in the orchard meadow at the campus Hubland.

Researchers at the University of Würzburg have identified a considerable number of wild bee species on the Hubland Campus. Some of the university's measures provide suitable habitats and thus promote biodiversity.

In this course, you will learn the theoretical and practical basics of fruit tree care, from planting to pruning. At the same time, you will actively support biodiversity by planting new fruit trees with us and, under the guidance of our expert Krischan Cords, carrying out the necessary maintenance measures on an old, species-rich orchard meadow that cannot survive without care.

Am 13.02.2025 fand der erste Obstbaumschnit-Kurs auf der Streuobstwiese hinter dem Biozentrum statt. Auch das widrige Wetter konnte der Lernbegierde der teilnehmenden Studierenden und Mitarbeitenden der Uni Würzburg nichts anhaben.
