Geophyte Collection
The collection of bulbous and tuberous plants (geophytes) is the most extensive scientific collection in the Botanical Garden of the University of Würzburg. The collection has been in existence for 40 years.
Important genera are: Crocus, Narcissus, Fritillaria, bulb-forming irises from the sections (subgenus) Scorpiris, Hermodactyloides, Oncocyclus and Cyclamen.
The collection also includes some conservation cultures of very rare and endangered species, such as Scilla morrisii Meikle from Cyprus or Romulea x limbarae Bég. from Sardinia.
The collection is not open to the public. However, parts of the collection are displayed in a showcase during the flowering season.
