Research and teaching
The Botanical Garden supports research projects of several chairs by providing experimental areas and research material. Scientific projects in botany, zoology and organic chemistry are currently underway in the Botanical Garden.
The Botanical Garden of the University of Würzburg is part of the "International Phenological Gardens of Europe" project of the Humboldt University of Berlin(http://ipg.hu-berlin.de/).
An example of a research project supported by the Botanic Garden:
MbandakamineA, a unique alkaloid from an african liana
The garden provides illustrative material for courses and cultivates a wide range of native plants for botanical identification exercises in undergraduate studies. It offers students from various disciplines the opportunity to familiarise themselves directly with the diversity of plants. The garden participates in botanical excursions for students.
The LehrLernGarten (LLG) project enables students to gain practical experience in knowledge transfer. (LehrLernGarten practice platform) Students - primarily from teacher training programmes and education - take on the role of teachers. Learning concepts are developed in their own courses and offered for school classes. Lecturers from various faculties use the Botanical Garden / LehrLernGarten with its infrastructure for their courses.
