A “TAP” is a simple yet effective method for gathering student feedback on how they perceive your teaching session. It complements the ‘traditional’ course evaluation with a qualitative approach. Since the TAP is conducted mid-semester and is linked to individual teaching development consultations, supportive aspects of learning can be identified early and possible changes implemented immediately. This brings several benefits: students are actively involved, can provide feedback, and take responsibility for their own learning process. You, as the lecturer, receive feedback that you can act on straight away. This creates a foundation for a successful course.

Procedure: After registering via email, we will arrange a date for the TAP. On the agreed day, you end your teaching session about 30 minutes early and leave the room. A member of the academic development team will moderate the session and divide the students into small groups. The students will then discuss the following three questions, which can be adapted or expanded to suit your individual objectives:

  • What helps you learn the most in this course?
  • What hinders your learning?
  • What suggestions do you have for improvement?

The groups write down their answers, which are then discussed in the plenary. In dialogue with the students, we focus on identifying and documenting constructive feedback that reflects the majority opinion. After the session, we provide you with an anonymised summary of the results and arrange a follow-up reflection meeting. In your next session, you share the results with your students.
