B: Giving Lectures in English (Online)

Datum: 04.07.2022, 09:00 - 17:00 Uhr
Kategorie: B1
Ort: Online

Goals:

  • Learn about techniques to keep your audience connected when presenting in English
  • Learn about common problems in lectures given by non-native speakers
  • Improve your fluency in English
  • Learn how to engage your audience right from the start and how to start, end, and structure your lecture

Giving lectures is a challenging task even in your mother tongue. For many people it seems even more challenging in a foreign language. Non-native speakers of English might sometimes struggle to find the right words, to connect sentences, or just be nervous because their English is not as fluent as they would like it to be. However, most scholars will nowadays have to give lectures in English at some stage of their careers.

This application-oriented seminar is specifically geared towards teaching staff who want to present their ideas more effectively. The online-workshop will provide you with tools and techniques to speak freely in English and to become as convincing and clear in front of your audience as possible. It will help you to overcome nervousness and improve your presentation skills in general.

The workshop puts a focus on active participation and practice. We will work from 9 am - 5 pm via Zoom. We will move from small presentation exercises to longer lecturing sequences and improve your lecturing skills on the way. You are invited to practice in a safe environment and to obtain feedback from your peers and the trainer.
