    Initiative Living Campus

    About us

We are students and researchers from several departments in biology and philosophy, as well as representatives of the student ecology department. In partnership with the university, the initiative will systematically record existing biodiversity and advocate for the sustainable (re)design of the green areas on the Hubland campus. The goal is to design the campus in a way that takes into account the needs of rare animal and plant species.

In this way, we want to ensure the protection of the remaining relict species and unique biotopes. In addition, communication measures are planned to show the people who work and study on campus the special significance of the habitats and their inhabitants on campus and to explain the measures taken to protect them. In doing so, we also want to build a bridge to the global biodiversity crisis, which, despite its dramatic extent, has hardly entered the consciousness of the general public.

We need motivated people from all disciplines

who would like to help us with the following: creating the website (TYPO3), mapping animal, plant, and fungus species, science communication, and concrete actions on campus.

You can even do your bachelor's or master's thesis on the project! But volunteers are also welcome!

Here you can find current and completed bachelor's, master's, and admission theses!

We are currently urgently looking for

    • A BSc or MSc student of biology who is interested in nature conservation, public relations, and project coordination and would like to earn some extra money in a student assistant position (> 3 months).
    • Students from all disciplines who would like to help us create information boards on the campus.
    • Students who would like to help us monitor wild bees and ground beetles.

We are happy to provide letters of reference for your assistance.

For applications and if you would like to know more, please contact us at:
