IMIB - INSTITUTE OF MOLECULAR INFECTION BIOLOGY

Jörg Vogel again a highly cited resaercher

12/14/2021

Once again, IMIB Director Jörg Vogel has been recognized as a highly cited researcher in his field. This was the result of an evaluation by Clarivate Analytics, a company specializing in citation data.

Jörg Vogel, Director of the Institute for Molecular Infection Biology (IMIB) and the Director of the Helmholtz Institute for RNA-based Infection Research (HIRI), is investigating regulatory RNA molecules in bacterial pathogens such as Salmonella and Fusobacteria.

His research group is developing new methods based on high-throughput sequencing to identify RNA molecules and understand their mechanism of action in health and disease. Vogel is a biochemist and was awarded the Leibniz Prize in 2017. He is an elected member of the German National Academy of Sciences (Leopoldina) and the European Molecular Biology Organization (EMBO). Since January 2021, Vogel is also the president of the European Academy of Microbiology (EAM).

According to Clarivate, the basis for the evaluation published today, November 16, is the Web of Science database. For this year's analysis, Clarivate Analytics considered the period from 2010 to 2020. Publications are considered to be frequently cited if they are among the one percent most cited papers in their field in the year of publication. Scientists are included in the exclusive circle of Highly Cited Researchers if they have contributed to several Highly Cited Papers. In 2021, there are around 6,600 Highly Cited Researchers worldwide.
