The Chancellor of the Würzburg University welcomed the Executive Committee of IUPsyS in the exhibition room of the Adolf-Würth-Center. He gave a short overview on the history of the University, and mentioned at this occasion also the originator of the “Würzburg School of Thought”, Oswald Külpe (1862-1915). He emphasized that the University feels very proud about having been elected to host this important international archive.
Rainer Silbereisen, the President of IUPsyS, told in his welcome address that he is very happy that the archive of the Union will be given in professional hands. The archival material comprises documents from 1951 to 2008. These documents are stored at different locations in Canada (Montreal and Otawa). Silbereisen emphasized that the archive will be in very good hands here and that Armin Stock and his team have the necessary expertise to handle it.
Pierre Ritchie, the Secretary – General of IUPsyS, will support the starting of the documentation work with his expertise. The archival material will be unified from two different locations in Canada and will be shipped to Würzburg. It comprises around 100 boxes with interesting documents e.g. about the Word Congresses on Psychology. These documents will also provide the opportunity for students, historians and other scientists to perform research work on different topics e.g. on the problems in organizing a world conference during the Cold War.
