Doctoral Day

Welcome to Würzburg’s first Doctoral Day!

When: Wednesday May 13, 2026, 11.00-17.00

Where: Graduate Schools Building, Beatrice-Edgell-Weg 21, Campus Hubland Nord and online 

On May 13^th, we are celebrating the EU Doctoral Day for the first time together with universities all across Europe.

Doctoral candidates are at the heart of our research and will go on to take on significant roles in our society and economy.

On our Doctoral Day, we invite master students and our current doctoral candidates to join us for a day of exchange and networking.

We will provide you with information on pursuing a PhD in Germany and specifically at Würzburg University.
Our current doctoral researchers are invited for a day of information, exchange and networking on topics like teaching, publishing or mental health.
A career session on different career paths will conclude our Doctoral Day with insights from current doctoral candidates, postdocs and alumni.

11.00-12.00 Parallel Sessions

Talk 1: Doing a PhD in Germany, Doing a PhD in Würzburg (Welcome Center) - online, English

Talk 2: Wege in die Wissenschaft: Promovieren an der Universität Würzburg (Graduate Academy, Professional Development) – in-person, German 

12.15-13.00: Welcome to Würzburg’s EU Doctoral Day by Prof. Caroline Kisker, Vice President for Research and Academic Career Development 

13.00-14.00: Catered Lunch with Activity Break by Healthy University

14.00-15.00: Parallel Sessions

Talk 3: Insights into Developing your Teaching Practices (Center for Teaching and Learning, CTL) – in-person, English

Talk 4: Auf dem Weg zur ersten Publikation: Services der Universitätsbibliothek für Promovierende (University Library) – in-person, German

Talk 5: Mental Health during the PhD phase (speaker: tbd) - in-person, English

15.00-15.30 Coffee Break

15.30-17.00: Career Talk with Doctoral Candidates, Postdocs, Alumni from the University of Würzburg – hybrid: online and in-person, English

Lobby: We are joined by the Writing Center, Healthy University, Centre for Teaching and Learning, Welcome Center, Diversity Team and Help Desks, WueCommunity Mentoring Program, Professional Development Department, Research Advancement Center, etc. 

Kid’s Corner: We will be able to provide free on-site child care services with the university’s family service for the EU Doctoral Day. In case you require it, please register.
